Why We Exist
At Surrounded Pearl, we believe every mother deserves to feel safe, heard, and cared for no matter her race, income, or background.
But in the U.S., Black women are still three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women. Chronic stress, bias, and lack of quality care play a major role.
Our founder created Surrounded Pearl after surviving late onset preeclampsia and realizing how many mothers face similar fear and silence. Out of that experience came a mission: to bridge systemic gaps in maternal healthcare through prevention, access, and community.
We’re here to change the narrative because when we protect Black mothers, we strengthen care for every mother.

Our flagship initiative, Pressure, tackles one of the leading causes of preventable maternal deaths, high blood pressure and preeclampsia. Through Pressure, we provide:
Free blood-pressure kits to Black mothers and birthing people.
Culturally aligned education on reading and understanding numbers.
Care-navigation tools to connect families to support sooner.
Every purchase from our merchandise line and every community event helps fund a kit for a mother in need.

Our Program
Yeah, We Talk
Yeah, We Talk is a nationwide community forum created for Black women to highlight the places where they felt safe bringing their children into the world spaces where their voices were respected, their concerns were taken seriously, and their care was delivered with dignity, equity, and humanity.
Yeah, We Talk is rooted in a belief that healthcare should be collaborative. Decisions should be made with the pregnant or postpartum person, using plain language, active listening, and cultural competency. Respect and feeling heard are not bonuses they are requirements.
When Black women speak, it is not complaint it is protection. When we share, it is not exposure it is survival. When we talk, we light the path forward for the next mother.
